Sustainability as a strategy: the story of D_CIRCLE

Gianluca Danesin, CEO, and Martina Vaccaro, Marketing & Communication, talk about why sustainability is not an obligation, but a strategic choice that drives innovation, governance, and value for customers, partners, and the region.

The new Sustainability Report 2024 is an important step for D_CIRCLE. Why the need to realize it?

Gianluca Danesin – In recent years, our industry (automation, robotics, data analysis and AI, cyber security) has been undergoing a profound transformation. Opportunities are growing, but complexity is also growing, especially in terms of energy consumption, European regulations and supply chain responsibility. This is why today the ESG approach is no longer “something extra”: it is a structural part of industrial strategy. The report was created precisely with the goal of transparently telling who we are, what impacts we generate, and how we intend to drive innovation that is also sustainable, ethical, and long-term oriented.

This edition also marks a major change in the method of reporting. Why this choice?

Martina Vaccaro – is the first consolidated sustainability report of the entire D_CIRCLE ecosystem, and the first based on ESRS standards. We wanted a document that is modern, rigorous and comparable with that of the most structured players in the market. It was intense work, because we gathered data from four different operating companies, each with its own specialization, and integrated them into a unified vision. To do this in a serious and reliable way, we chose to rely on ESG Solution, which guided us in the methodology and interpretation of European standards.

Why ESG Solution as a partner for this journey?

Gianluca Danesin – For two reasons. First, technical expertise. ESRSs require a level of precision, regulatory knowledge and analytical skills that cannot be improvised. Second: consultative approach. ESG Solution did not just “report,” but helped us read our processes, our risks, and our opportunities in a new way. It was a journey of growth, even before a compliance exercise.

“Drafting D_CIRCLE’s Sustainability Report 2024 was also a stimulating challenge for us: a consolidated report according to ESRS, in its first year of application, with no historicity and designed for an ecosystem of unobligated SMEs, which required a truly customized approach. The preparation, availability and extraordinary responsiveness of the internal team, together with the vision and sensitivity of the CEO, were instrumental in building a solid path. The work with D_CIRCLE demonstrated how effective sustainability becomes when it is shared: solid data, continuous dialogue, and a common vision. It has been a path that has strengthened not only the report, but the very identity of the group ” (ESG Solution)

What was the role of D_CIRCLE’s administration office in the project?

Martina Vaccaro – Fundamental. Sustainability relies on data and transparency, and without an accurate, responsive and knowledgeable administration office it would be impossible to build a reliable report. They collected, validated and coordinated a huge amount of information, from energy consumption to economic value distribution, from HR aspects to governance.
The collaboration between the administration office, marketing, management and ESG Solution was the real key to the success of the project.

Regarding governance: what does the report show?

Gianluca Danesin – Governance is at the heart of our growth strategy. D_CIRCLE is not just a financial holding company: it is an ecosystem of specialized companies that work together with a coordinated model, a common vision and constant oversight of risks – technological, organizational, market and regulatory. The adoption of standards such as ISO 9001 and the desire to extend them throughout the group go in this very direction: quality, predictivity, control. Technology without governance is fragile; governance without innovation is slow. We seek balance.

How is sustainability intertwined with innovation, especially in a high-tech context?

Martina Vaccaro – For us, innovation means three things: efficiency, responsibility and long-term vision. When we talk about AI, advanced robotics, intelligent automation, we are talking about technologies that consume energy, require specialized skills and generate impacts on society. The report helps us set concrete goals: reduce consumption, improve the quality of work, attract talent, spread an ethical automation model-where technology supports people, not replaces them. It is a way of saying: let’s innovate, yes, but with awareness.

What is the greatest value of this report to customers, partners, and the market?

Gianluca Danesin – Transparency. We show who we really are, with clear numbers, processes and strategic choices. Those who work with us know that D_CIRCLE is not just a technology provider: it is a partner that believes in responsible innovation, sound business model and the creation of shared value for the entire supply chain.

Martina Vaccaro – And I would add: it is also a message of consistency. For years we have been talking about technology serving people, sustainable growth, ethics in automation. This report shows that these are not slogans: they are concrete, measurable, public commitments.

What should we expect from the next few years?

Gianluca Danesin – Growth based on three pillars: innovation, people, sustainability. We will continue to invest in robotics, data intelligence and industrial AI, but in parallel we will strengthen governance, risk management, quality and social impact. D_CIRCLE will increasingly become an integrated ecosystem, capable of creating value for customers, employees, partners and territories.
